Everyone who knew "Marnie" enjoyed her kindness and her open, laughing spirit. Although she faced serious challenges in arriving on campus to be one of very, very few women in engineering, she navigated them with both resolve and practicality, never forgetting to enjoy life, whether enjoyment fit the expected or not. A couple of my favorite moments with her, not to mention at Swarthmore, was riding behind her on her much-frowned-upon Vespa -- on campus, around the Ville, and even into the Crum. Her family, her friends, and the world lost her way too soon.
