What have you been up to since graduation?

I went straight to the Harvard Business School to get my MBA, then worked in NYC for 1 1/2 years before departing for Twin Cities to work for Paul M. Ellwood, Jr., MD who became my lifetime mentor. Six years later, I left to start my own health plan (Physicians Health Services) in Bridgeport, CT which I ran for 22 years. I then owned and operated a minor league baseball team (the Bridgeport Bluefish) for 8 seasons before getting back into managed health care, as CEO of ConnectiCare for 5 years, then later as a consultant leading Harvard Pilgrim Health Care's expansion into CT. I have now completed a two-year contract as the CEO of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council, working to promote economic development in the greater Bridgeport region.

Memories from your time at Swarthmore:

Best memory was of playing soccer and baseball, especially the 1966 soccer season when we ended the regular season undefeated, beating Princeton, Penn, and tying perennial national champion contender, the US Naval Academy.
Swarthmore College was transformational for me, exposing me new values, and incredibly interesting people, from fellow students to faculty and administrators. I always wanted one of my children to attend Swarthmore, and was rewarded when my fourth child, also Mickey, graduated from the college in 2015, providing me with a special opportunity to get reacquainted with the college.

Extracurricular activities, books, creative products, athletic achievements:

Leading hitter for the USA in 1984 World Fast Pitch Softball Tournament. CT Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame. All-American status twice in Amateur Softball Association. National Tournaments. Played on 1983 National Champion Fast Pitch Franklin Cardinal Team from CT. Honorary PhD from the University of Bridgeport. Recipient of state Integrity award from the School for Ethical Education.

What did you always want to do that you haven't done yet?

Snorkel at the Great Barrier Reef. Celebrate the weddings of my three unmarried children. Grow old(er) with my wife, Jackie, who has been my best friend since before we were married 27 years ago.

Open category - thoughts, quotes, wisdom:

Mistakes don't matter; it's the response to error that counts!

A really great man is the man who makes every man feel great. (Charles Dickens character).

Totally surprised to be selected last fall to Swarthmore's All-Century Soccer Team (from the 1960's with teammate Geoffrey Mwaungulu, Class of "69). Photo below is me and teammate Eddie Fei from the Class of '67).
